A rising star from Team Lakay’s fresh batch of young talents is ready to elevate his game further when he returns to the ONE Championship ring.
Carlos “The Limitless” Alvarez, part of the legendary stable’s “next-gen,” looks for a fitting follow-up performance to his raucous debut when he takes on Iran’s Reza Saedi in a three-round featherweight encounter at ONE Friday Fights 25, taking place at the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on July 14.
“I’m thrilled for the opportunity because, once again, I’ll be able to demonstrate my skills in front of a global audience and perform in a world-renowned arena like Lumpinee,” he said.
A brother-in-law of former ONE Flyweight World Champion Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, Alvarez burst onto the global mixed martial arts scene with an impressive outing against Iranian opponent Reza Abasi at ONE Friday Fights 13 nearly three months ago, which left spectators in awe.
The 24-year-old phenom from Baguio City, Benguet landed multiple takedowns over the course of the one-sided contest and mounted submission attempts on the ground providing a constant threat to Abasi.
Abasi eventually succumbed to the punishment in the second round, allowing Alvarez to improve his professional record to 2-0.
On the other hand, Saedi will be making his maiden appearance under the ONE Championship umbrella on July 14.
With a kickboxing and wrestling pedigree, Saedi had his first assignment in the professional ranks under a local organization in February 2020, edging out compatriot Ali Khademi by way of a razor-thin split decision.
As Alvarez steps into the spotlight once more, he carries the weight of Team Lakay’s rich legacy.
“I am eternally grateful for the privilege of carrying the name of Team Lakay in ONE Championship. It is an honor that fills my heart with immense pride and gratitude,” he stated.
Filipino fight fans will be able to catch the action live on ONE Championship’s YouTube channel and Facebook page at 8:30 PM on Friday, July 14.
