With most of the Philippines on lockdown amid the COVID-19 pandemic, citizens are called on to adjust accordingly – and that is exactly what Ramon “The Bicolano” Gonzales is doing right now.
It has been a challenging past few weeks for Filipinos and the only thing Gonzales can do now is to stay healthy and strengthen his body in these trying times.
“It’s sad that this is happening all over the world. Right now as an athlete, I just make sure to find time to work out and train, even when I am alone,” Gonzlaes said.
“I also encourage my family and friends to do simple workouts in their homes so they can strengthen their immune system. That’s one way of surviving this, to stay disciplined by finding time to work out and encouraging others to do it as well.”
Though fitness probably would not be an issue for Gonzales, his worries cannot be contained.
Living away from his family for the longest time, there is no single minute that “The Bicolano” fails to think about his loved ones.
“The biggest challenge for me is worrying about my family. They’re far away from me now and I think about them all the time,” Gonzales shared.
“I just make sure to keep in touch everyday, and I never get tired reminding them of the things that they need to do to stay safe.”
The effects of the virus can be felt all over the world, including global sports promotions like ONE Championship
Right now, The Home Of Martial Arts already canceled their next set of events on closed-doors.
But once everything goes back to normal and if called upon, Gonzales vows to be ready.
“I am so eager to be in the Circle again and represent my team, my family and my country. I know that we will all get over this crisis soon,” Gonzales said.
“This pandemic won’t stop me from my goals. I have a lot of plans this 2020 and I am ready to show my improvements. Everyday is a learning experience and those experiences make me who I am today.”
