Gonzales Set To Settle Unfinished Business With Hexigetu at ONE: AGE OF DRAGONS

Filipino strawweight Ramon “The Bicolano” Gonzales is just a couple of days away from his opportunity to finish his business with Chinese standout “Wolf of the Grasslands” Hexigetu.

Both men are scheduled to compete in the undercard of ONE: AGE OF DRAGONS at the Cadillac Arena in Beijing, China on 16 November.

The two 56.7-kilogram standouts were originally scheduled to face each other at ONE: DREAMS OF GOLD in Bangkok last August, but after Gonzales failed his weight and hydration results, the bout was removed from the stacked card.

Gonzales, who’s looking to collect his fourth-straight win inside the ONE Circle, believes that he has already learned his lessons and is now excited to extend his winning ways.

“Of course I am excited that I am given another opportunity by ONE Championship, I feel blessed,” Gonzales shared.

“I was so disappointed with myself the last time. It was a really tough time for me as an athlete but I always take that kind of situation as a challenge.”

Winning his last three matches in an impressive fashion, Gonzales believes that another spectacular performance this Saturday could secure his place in the upper echelon of the loaded strawweight division, but more than the rankings, the Kyoskushin karate black belt is more excited with the knowledge he will be collecting in his battle against his Chinese counterpart.

“I know a win here would put me in a better position in the rankings but on top of that, my main goal for every match is to win and learn,” Gonzales shared.

“All of my matches are important, but this is different. I’m eager to win this match because I know new opportunities will open for me. New lessons and a new start for the coming year.

Gonzales, who owns a 4-2 (win-loss) record is happy that ONE Championship has decided to pair him again against Hexigetu, given that he has already trained hard against his Chinese counterpart since their supposed meeting in Bangkok.

Completely aware of the challenge waiting for him in Beijing, Gonzales plans to go all-out against Hexigetu, who is also trying to build a little streak of wins on his own after collecting his first professional win in his last match against Ovais “The Enigma” Shah at ONE: WARRIORS OF LIGHT last May.

“The cancellation of our bout gave me more time to review his previous matches and to learn more about him because I knew I was going to meet him again in the future,” Gonzales said.

“I know that Hexigatu is a dangerous opponent and I have no plans of being complacent against him,” he added. “But I am eager and determined to win this because this is a second chance that was given to me by ONE.”
