Mark Sangiao Believes Jerry Olsim Is A Star In The Making

Last June 20, Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao watched one of his up-and-coming stars dominate and rise to the occasion.

Filipino featherweight Jerry Olsim scored a unanimous decision win over Myeong Gu Kim of South Korea at Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series 6 held in Singapore.

Hoping a victory will secure him the golden ticket to the big league, Olsim showed his talents as well his toughness against his South Korean counterpart as they battled back and forth for all 15 minutes which was rewarded as one of most exciting bouts of the night.

Although the win last weekend didn’t give him the lucrative contract to compete on ONE Championship’s main roster, Sangiao is still happy seeing his student perform well against quality opposition.

“First and foremost, I congratulated him for a job well done and a great display of athleticism. Then I told him to just keep on training,” Sangiao said.

“Considering that he’s fairly young, I know he’ll go places. He is a star in the making. He’ll be a star in ONE if he continues striving.”

For Sangiao, this is just the beginning of a brighter mixed martial arts future for Olsim who he believes has the tools needed to be successful in the sport.

“Jerry is great at striking and clinching. That’s his bread and butter. However, we have to work on his ground game and finishing,” Sangiao assessed.

“In the big league, considering he’s just 22, he’ll go places.”

Armed with skills and positive attitude, Sangiao also mentioned that Olsim will be guided by his Team Lakay family all the way.

The world-class head coach makes sure that the ONE Warrior Series star will definitely have all the assistance he needs, a commandment and dedication to helping one another that they’ve been doing since day one.

“As they say, if you want to be the best, you have to train with the best. This is a huge development for Jerry,” the coach said.

“I always remind him that the key to being a champion is training, training, and training. That should be every day so he can work on his weaknesses.”

With the impressive performances Olsim has been showing lately, Sangiao believes that as long he carries a good attitude in and out of the ONE Circle, a bright future is waiting for him in the world of martial arts.

“I am telling him now that as long he remains hungry a bright future is waiting for him.”
