Mark Sangiao’s Team Lakay will be in a another competitive night on July 27 as three of his valued pupils will showcase their skills against top-caliber opponents at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines for ONE: REIGN OF KINGS.
Headlined by comarade Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, who will be facing two-division ONE World Champion Martin Nguyen in the main event, former lightweight titleholder Eduard “Landslide” Folayang and Joshua “The Passion” Pacio will also be challenged in front of the hometown crowd as they are scheduled to take on highly-touted undefeated foes in their respected bouts.
Folayang will be welcoming Aziz Pahrudinov of Russia in ONE Championship, while Filipino strawweight star Pacio is slated to lock horns with Pongsiri Mitsatit.
Coming off an impressive unanimous decision victory in Singapore last May at ONE: UNSTOPPABLE DREAMS against Kharun “Predator” Atlangeriev, Folayang’s road to reclaiming his lightweight throne will go through another detour as he shares the cage with another unbeaten Russian in Pahrudinov.
This will be Folayang’s second straight fight after losing the lightweight title last November at the hands Nguyen, who looks for his third world title by defeating Belingon in the main event of ONE: REIGN OF KINGS.
The 34-year-old Baguio City native did not show any signs of ring rust two months, despite being out of the cage for almost half a year.
Folayang gracefully showcased his mixed martial arts skills against Atlangeriev, who struggled to penetrate the defense of his Filipino opponent.
Hungry for more challenges, Folayang bids to position himself for a possible title shot in the stacked lightweight division.
On the other hand, Pahrudinov boasts a spotless record with impressive 20 wins and is coming off a thrilling unanimous decision victory over Kenichiro Togashi at Pancrase 291 in Tokyo, Japan last November.
With all eyes on him as he battles one of Philippine mixed martial arts’ beloved heros, Pahrudinov is motivated to leave a lasting impression.
For Joshua Pacio, his cage encounter against Mitsatit will solidify his status in the upper echelon of the strawweight division.
Coming off an impressive submission victory over Lan Min Qiang at ONE: GLOBAL SUPERHEROES last January and a scintillating knockout triumph over compatriot Roy Doliguez last November at ONE: LEGENDS OF THE WORLD, a win over Mitsatit could possibly be his golden ticket to another title shot and much-awaited rematch with reigning division kingpin Yoshitaka Naito.
Meanwhile, Mitsatit poses a big threat to Team Lakay’s young gun known as “The Passion” as he holds an unblemished 9-0 professional record and is widely-considered as one of the fastest rising stars in the world of martial arts.
The 22-year-old Chiang Mai native is also riding high on a six-straight knockout streak, including his stellar Filipino dynamo Jeremy Miado at ONE: HEROES DREAM in Yangon, Myanmar last November.
Like Pacio, Mitsatit believes that a convincing win at ONE: REIGN OF KINGS could possibly put his name on top of the strawweight contender’s list.
